as such Amazon announced last night, has inked an agreement with game studio Crystal Dynamics that will see the US retail giant publish the next Tomb Raider game. Perhaps Amazon hopes to further its ambitions in the gaming sector, which so far have not been particularly successful.
Amazon is very involved in publishing games
The name of the next game in the “Tomb Raider” series has not yet been announced, nor is there a possible release date for it. However, the start of the collaboration with Crystal Dynamics was apparently significant enough for Amazon to release a full-bodied press release now. It states that the new title is in an early stage of development. Amazon also wants to take storytelling to the next level with the game and launch the “largest and most comprehensive” game in the “Tomb Raider” series to date. Amazon has been running the so-called Amazon Game Studios for years, but so far has only been able to celebrate minor successes with the game “New World” and its subsequent title, “Lost Ark.”
The new “Tomb Raider” title will be Amazon’s step into the big stage of AAA titles. The first game in the series was released in 1996. Since then, the different versions of the series have sold more than 95 million copies worldwide. In the most recent releases, Square Enix acted as publisher before the entire franchise and developer studio Crystal Dynamics was sold to Swedish game conglomerate Embracer Group in August 2022.
It remains to be seen when Lara Croft will fight her way through the gaming world on Amazon’s behalf, because as mentioned, there haven’t been any similar announcements.
