Flea, bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, performed with Nick Cave and Warren Ellis in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The three together performed “We No Who UR” by The Bad Seeds.
Flea joined forces with Cave and Ellis for the second appearance of the night, helping them play the opening song from The Bad Seeds’ 2012 album, “Push The Sky Away.” It was the song’s first single on the couple’s current tour of their popular 2021 album CARNAGE, and marked the first time the song had played in seven years.
The guitarist added his own style to the track before embracing Cave and Ellis at the end of the song. Here you can see the performance:
After the party, Ellis shared a photo with Flea on Instagram and wrote, “It’s great to be on stage with me and Nick at The Shrine in Los Angeles tonight. You can feel the soul pouring out of you on stage.”
This isn’t the first time Ellis and Flea have been on stage together. In 2014, they played a whole concert together in Paris. On the other hand, Cave’s relationship is arguably a little more difficult with Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Nick Cave reportedly criticized the band in a 2004 review of STADIUM ARCADIUM for The Guardian. Cave is said to have said, “I’m always near a stereo and I’m like, ‘What the hell is this?’ “And the answer is always Red Hot Chili Peppers.” However, it appears that Flea did not take this criticism seriously.
Two years later, Flea wrote on the official RHCP website: “He hurt my feelings for a moment because I love Nick Cave. I have all his recordings. I don’t care if Nick Cave hates my band because his music means everything to me because he’s one of my favorite songwriters, singers and musicians in the world.” All ages. I love all bad seed incarnations. But it only hurts my feelings for a second because my love is greater than all this nonsense and if he thinks my squad is weak, that’s fine.”
Warren Ellis and Nick Cave are currently on a US tour as a duo, to follow up on their 2021 album Carnage. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are releasing their new album UNLIMITED LOVE this year.
