Ragnhild Hemsing Review – Vitra

Ragnhild Hemsing Review – Vitra

Ragnhild Hemsing provides the perfect soundtrack for the cold season in “Vetra – My Norwegian Winter”.

World-famous violinist Ragnhild Hemsing has been campaigning for Hardangerwedel from her native Norway for years. The Hardanger fiddle is the stringed instrument of Norwegian folklore, and Greg was inspired by it. So why wouldn’t a Christmas album with traditional tunes sound like this? Hemsing has assembled a group that also includes two experts on the Langeleik zither. However, this does not make for good playing of Christmas tunes. Instead, beautiful soundscapes are created using string, brass and percussion instruments. The result is music that occupies a nexus of its own, between folklore, classical techniques, new music and improvisation. The joy of making music, the great vocal ideas and the dynamism of this group seem to know no bounds. This sweeps you away and envelops you. This wild Christmas music from the far north is the perfect accompaniment to winter.
