Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced on June 3 that its virtual reality headset, PlayStation VR2, will be compatible with Steam. By installing a special adapter released on August 7, you will be able to play PC VR games on PS VR2.
Even for PC gaming, PS VR2 supports features such as 4K video (2000 x 2040 per eye), approximately 110-degree viewing angle, finger touch function, and transparent display. Compatible games can also use click view (those that don't use eye tracking) and 3D audio. However, since it was originally designed exclusively for the PS5, it does not support some features like HDR, headphone feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback.
To access PS VR2 on a PC, you'll need a PlayStation VR2 PC Adapter (8,480 yen), a DisplayPort 1.4-compatible DisplayPort cable (sold separately), and a Steam account.
Compatible PCs are Intel Core i5-7600/AMD Ryzen 3 3100 (requires Zen 2 architecture or later) or higher CPU, 8GB memory or higher, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or later (requires Turing architecture or later)/RTX series /AMD A Radeon RX 5500XT/6500XT GPU or higher required. For comfortable gaming, we recommend a GeForce RTX 3060 or higher GPU, or a Radeon RX 6600XT or higher.
“Users will be able to access Steam's extensive library of virtual reality games, including popular titles like Half-Life: Alyx and Fallout 4 VR, and purchase games to play on PS VR2,” SIE said.
