It's enough to wipe the smile off her face.
A pair of climate change activists dumped pumpkin soup on the Mona Lisa on Sunday at the Louvre Museum in Paris as onlookers gasped, sparking shocking new videos.
“What is more important?” shouted the crazy activists in French. “Art or the right to a healthy and sustainable diet?”
The two nuts are members of an activist group called “Riposte Alimetaire” or Food Response, which issued a statement saying the aim of the show was to highlight the need to protect the environment.
The museum said in a statement: “Two activists from the environmental movement Riposte Alimentaire sprayed pumpkin soup on the armored glass protecting the Mona Lisa, on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at around 10 am.” According to CNN. “Security staff at the Louvre Museum intervened immediately.”
Museum officials said they had filed a complaint against the activists.
Fortunately, Leonardo da Vinci's legendary 16th century masterpiece was not harmed, thanks to the safety glass installed in front of the famous painting in the museum.
This was not the first time that demonstrators targeted the Mona Lisa and her legendary smile.
In 2022, an eco-warrior, wearing a wig and lipstick, tried to break through the protective glass and then threw a cake onto the plate in a freak accident.
“Think of the earth,” shouted the man. “There are people who are destroying the Earth. Think about it, the artists tell you, think about the Earth. That's why I did this.”
In 2009, a woman threw a ceramic cup at the sign, CNN reported.
Da Vinci's masterpiece wasn't the only target of activists — later in 2022, protesters threw Heinz tomato soup at Vincent van Gogh's “Sunflowers” painting at the National Gallery in London.
The vandals, Anna Holland and Phoebe Plummer, were arrested.
