Princess Kate to present trophy at Wimbledon men's final in rare appearance

Kensington Palace confirmed on Saturday that Catherine, Princess of Wales, will present the trophy to the winner of Sunday's Wimbledon men's final in what will be her second public appearance since announcing her cancer diagnosis in March.

Catherine, who has been seen at just one official event since December, will be on Centre Court to watch defending champion Carlos Alcaraz take on Novak Djokovic. But she will not be at the women's final on Saturday.

She last appeared in public to attend King Charles III's birthday celebrations in June. Before that appearance, she issued a statement saying she was making good progress in her treatment but that there were “good days and bad days”.

Catherine, 42, said chemotherapy and other care will continue for several more months, and she previously said she hoped to attend events over the summer.

The March announcement ended months of speculation about the princess’s health after she took time away from the public following major abdominal surgery in January. She received an outpouring of support from family and the public when she made the announcement, including from President Biden, who He said, “Jill and I join millions of people around the world in praying for your complete recovery.”

The 75-year-old king was also diagnosed with cancer this year. None of the royals have revealed what type of cancer he has.

According to an unsigned email from Wimbledon's media department, Catherine asked Deborah Jevans, president of the All England Club, to present the women's singles trophy this year.

Catherine attended the singles finals in 2023 and presented the trophy to Alcaraz and Djokovic in previous years. Djokovic is playing for his eighth Wimbledon win, while Alcaraz is looking for his second.
