The book has been developed specifically for law students, lawyers and those interested in the law. And perhaps also for legal trainees, even if they are not mentioned in the introduction for whatever reason.

Topic-specific vocabulary

It is recognized that learning with crossword puzzles cannot impart systematic connections or basic understanding. The book’s system places a lot of emphasis on keywords for this. But this is not what Evertz asks for in his book. Rather, it should “Subject-specific vocabulary” Become an apprentice.

“This crossword puzzle book is designed to help you expand your vocabulary while preparing for exams.”

If you do not solve crosswords regularly, instructions are given at the beginning of the book. Umlauts should be written with a double vowel, “ß” is replaced with a double S, and so on.

110 crossword puzzles with over 1,700 trivia questions

Thematically, each puzzle is quite mixed up. Therefore, there is no separation between civil law, common law, criminal law, or even in the law of obligations, inheritance law, etc. Now one might say that this is quite confusing. This must be agreed, but the book is not intended to impart knowledge, but simply to test knowledge already learned, and to deepen it if necessary. Because of the mixed questions, the book also opposes what is called “fossil thinking.” Although each individual question relates only to a particular area of law, as you have to quickly jump from area of law to area of law, there is no doubt that similarities and differences with the previous questions or their answers exist.

Would you like a small sample?

  • A trip sold as a package, often including transportation, accommodation, and other services (answer: all-inclusive tour)
  • The person or organization that initiates or finances construction projects (answer: developer)
  • Not twice in the same thing (lat.) (Answer: ne bis in idem)
Example from the book (Puzzle No. 101)

The difficulty of the questions varies greatly. Some questions already contain the answer in the question, for example: “Several people ask in solidarity about religion.”. Here it is no longer particularly difficult to find the answer “joint debtor” Gets. But there are also clearly difficult tasks, for example: “The power of state agencies to resolve legal disputes, enforce the law and make binding decisions”Answer: “Jurisdiction”.

So not only can you completely repeat common technical terms, but you can also think about things and learn something new.

The last 10 crossword puzzles are categorized as “Special Puzzles Stex”. The questions here are shorter, more concise and relate more to material relevant to the exam in the state exam. Sometimes there are only individual paragraphs in the question and the name of the standard must then be given, e.g. § 855 BB. This meaning can certainly be debated. However, it is always good to at least know the approximate content of some important parameters. In addition, such “questions” are very limited.
