Power2Drive 2022: the car becomes a power bank – Trade fairs, electric mobility (e-mobility), charging infrastructure, economic and energy policy | news | transmit vision

The coupling of the mobility and energy sectors is the focus of Power2Drive from May 11-13 at the Munich trade fair. Manufacturers believe that a car becomes a mobile power bank if it feeds electricity back into the grid when needed. Bi-Directional Charging is transforming the charging infrastructure into an interface between the mobility and energy sectors. At the international trade fair, at the exhibition forum and at the accompanying Power2Drive Europe conference, the goal is to connect manufacturers, suppliers, installers, fleet and energy managers, dealers and start-ups. VISION Mobility will also be represented at the exhibition on May 11 from 1:30 p.m. with THINK TANK, which will focus on the topic “Driving or Transforming Mobility. Why It Takes More Than Just Change from Fossil to Electric Power” and discussions with exciting guests.

The car becomes a buffer

Regulators believe that flexible consumers and electricity storage will become more important as renewable energy expands. These include battery electric vehicles, which use smart charge management to get green electricity, for example from photovoltaic systems, whenever there is a surplus. Two-way charging vehicles not only draw electric power, but can also put it back into the grid if necessary. Electric car batteries act as energy stores – the car becomes a mobile power bank. Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology enables intelligent sector coupling and is an essential building block for energy transmission.

Double and triple benefit: V2G in cars

The potential for previously unused storage in electric vehicles is huge, according to trade fair organizers: V2G technology can help decarbonize the transportation sector, maintain power grid stability, improve renewable energy integration and provide additional revenue streams for power supply companies and educate car owners. . With this bi-directional charging, the importance of charging infrastructure at the interface between the mobility and energy sectors is increasing.

Expanding public charging points in Europe

Especially as the network of charging points is becoming more dense: fear of charging stations should soon become a thing of the past in Europe (see chart). The Netherlands leads the way: here the number of charging points available to the public in 2021 grew by almost a third compared to the previous year to 91,739. With an increase of 40%, expansion is also progressing strongly in Germany (to 62,711 charging points). It is followed by two countries, France (54653) and Italy (26860), which show the strongest growth among the top five countries in the European Union at more than 75%. The number of publicly available charging points across the European Union increased by nearly three quarters to 338,191 compared to the previous year. The overwhelming proportion of over 90% is AC charging points.

Trade fair product innovations: e-mobility meets energy

While only some are aware of the importance of renewable energies and electric mobility, international industries have been developing marketable products and solutions for years. The international trade fair wants to reflect the intelligent integration of electric mobility in the renewable energy system, and thus be integrated into the smarter E Europe innovation platform, in parallel with the energy trade fairs Intersolar Europe, ees Europe and EM-Power Europe.

Conference: Rethink Mobility, Focus on Charging Infrastructure

At the accompanying Specialized Conference on May 10-11, 2022, international experts, actors and pioneers in the new mobility will meet. According to the specification, the relationship between e-mobility and topics such as green electricity, battery storage and sectoral coupling should be demonstrated. They will present trends in charging technologies for e-mobility and best practice examples of mobile charging solutions, and discuss the link between e-mobility and reducing the carbon footprint of the economy. One session was devoted to the topic of Financing Programs for Shipping Infrastructure in a European Comparison and Regulatory Obstacles. Conference participants will also learn how managing charging benefits utilities and how the spread of electric vehicles affects the power grid.
