Portkeys has unveiled the compact and lightweight 5.4-inch PL5 touchscreen display at IBC2024 in Amsterdam.
In addition to all the monitoring tools you'd expect from a professional monitor, the PL5 also includes several live streaming tools like color grading, cropping tools, and image flipping to help filmmakers and content creators save time while shooting and save money.
The PL5 is a lightweight camera-mounted monitor made of ABS and PC, weighs 154.5g and measures 135.1 x 82.5 x 22mm. It has a 5.4-inch 10-bit (8+2 FRC) touchscreen with a resolution of 1920 x 1152, a maximum brightness of 500 nits, a contrast ratio of 1000:1, and a wide viewing angle of 178 degrees.
There is only one on/off switch, one screen lock/UI switch, and one battery release button at the top of the screen.
On the left side of the screen, there is a 4K DCI 30p HDMI video input port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 3.5mm microphone input. All video output ports are located on the right side of the PL5 and include an HDMI output port, a USB 3.0 output port, and a USB 3.0 Type C video output port. The maximum resolution is 1080P60.
The back of the PL5 has a built-in Sony NP-F battery plate. With low power consumption of only 7W, it can power the screen for more than 2 hours. If you need longer playback time, you can power the PL5 via the USB-C port. There is a single USB-A port at the bottom of the monitor, which can be used for future firmware updates or loading custom LUTs.
To mount the PL5 to a camera, cam rig, tripod or gimbal, there are two 1/4″-20 mounting points with locating pins on the bottom and right side of the monitor.
The PL5 is equipped with the following professional monitoring tools needed to make accurate decisions while shooting.
- 3D LUT monitoring function with HDMI and USB-C output functions. Custom LUTs can be loaded from the USB-A port located at the bottom of the monitor.
- Customizable with 13 false colors including ARRI false colors.
- Adjustable RGB and Luma waveform/histogram exposure tools, and zebra tools.
- Compress anamorphic images compatible with all standard aspect ratios (1.33x, 1.5x, 2.0x) and the ability to enter custom aspect ratios from 0.25x to 4.0x.
- Leg Extension Tool: Allows you to extend the bottom of the image when shooting vertically. The leg extender function can be sent to HDMI output.
- Image Capture: Image Capture software takes a snapshot of the HDMI video input (optionally combined with a LUT) and stores it in the monitor's memory. The transparency/opacity of the image overlay can be adjusted.
- Image Overlay: Helps you match shots (continuity) and quickly get an overview of the day's shooting.
- Peaking and zooming functions make focusing easy.
- Framing tools: crosshair, selection field, guide, grid, rectangle crop.
- Sound meter
- Screen adjustments: Backlight, Contrast, Color Temperature, Sharpness, Saturation, Brightness, Color, HDR HLG, Face Mode OSD.
The PL5 is equipped with Portkeys' latest operating system, MOVNORM OS, which features an all-new user interface that makes navigating the menus and using the PL5 easier.
In addition to being a monitor, the PL5 is also a streaming device with a USB-C video output port. Connect to your desktop or laptop and stream to any platform via OBS.
Designed as an all-in-one solution, PL5 also implements multiple features, including:
- Ability to apply 3D LUT to video output.
- A 360-degree color grading tool that adjusts the hue and saturation of selected parts of the image. Identify specific color bands in your images, isolate them precisely, and apply corrections.
- Image contrast, sharpness, brightness, color temperature and hue can be adjusted.
- Built-in image flip.
- Free rectangular pieces.
- Create close-ups in photos. Create multiple rectangular crop presets to quickly and easily add dynamism to your live streams.
The PL5 is a security box that contains an umbrella, a set of rubber covers, a USB key, a full-size to full-size HDMI cable, a Portkeys MH-2 monitor stand, a USB-C to USB-C cable, and a USB-C to USB-A cable. And it was shipped.
