Pimenta wants to row the world with results ‘in line’ with her status – The Observer

Boat driver Fernando Pimenta wants to finish Sunday’s track world championships in a “consistent” manner with his performance on this long Olympic cycle, with medals, if possible, in both the K1 1000 and K1 5000, in Copenhagen.

“It is the drive to want to finish this Olympic cycle well and give it my all. To represent Portugal and the Portuguese at the highest level. If at the moment I am the best athlete in the K1 1000, the Portuguese deserves to count on me not only in the Olympics, but also in this extra effort,” he admitted.

Speaking to Lusa, Pimenta, Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist in the K1 1000 metres, after the London 2012 silver medalist in the K2 1000, along with Emmanuel Silva, completed an Olympic course climbing the podium methodically at both distances, in both Europe and the World Cup .

Having achieved the great goal, the Olympics, Limiano assumes it was “very difficult to get back to training”, recalling that he was “very tired and tired” after a time in the World Cup and European finals. After Tokyo 2020, and exceptionally in the Games year, there is also the World Cup.

In the 1000m, he would “fight” to achieve, in a knockout, victory that would guarantee a direct final., while at the 5,000m he remembers that this race requires “very good management”, in a challenge he intends to avoid “problems on the runways”.

“I will try to do good races and, if possible, I will fight for medals,” he concluded.

His coach, Helio Lucas, noted that this was a “very stressful time” and that the World Cup after the Olympics “doesn’t make much sense”.

“He peaked in Tokyo 2020. We worked hard for it. After he finished the call a little bit, he worked with less pressure, because it was a very long year. We expect a worthy participation to represent Portugal. He will compete in both races as best he can and I think he can get Good results,” he predicted.

Helio Lucas posits that it is ‘too costly’ to restore the ‘ideal shape’ of the World Cup at an odd, less common height, however, ensures the “usual impulse” of his pupil.

Fernando Pimenta starts the competition at 10:27 (09:27 in Lisbon) on Thursday in the second round of the K1 1000 where his main opponents in the fight for the only direct place in the final are Denmark’s Rene Poulsen and Slovakian Peter Gilly. The German Martin Heller.

Portugal presents itself at the World Canoeing Championships with a selection of 11 canoeists, two of whom will compete in rowing.
