The musical year 2023 was all about György Ligeti, on the occasion of his 100th birthday. Fortunately, this memory still bears after-effects: the specialists from the Ensemble Intercontemporain from Paris and their music director Pierre Bleuz bring together concertos and chamber music from 1947 to 1994 on two CDs, and it is a great honor that the solo parts of the concerts are also taken. By the members of the formation, after all the individual qualities are there. The pieces are primarily high-wire works, pushing the performers to their limits whether in their movement skills, complexity, intensity, sudden fluctuations, or beguiling tones. These challenges are overcome with incredible and striking precision, tangibly felt in their presence and by fire. Rich in contrast, with a huge range of dynamics and color shades. Ligeti's universe is very close to you here. This double album is a win for fans and newbies.
