PC gaming tips | ComputerBase Forum

woo,

I want to buy a really good gaming PC after a long time (the last PC purchase was in 2012 and the components were not upgraded…). In addition, my graphics card burned out a few days ago, so an early replacement would be very desirable, although I often read on the forum that new hardware will be released in a few months.

1. Do you want to play on PC?

  • What exactly are games?
    • Cyberpunk 2077, Anno 1800, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Red Dead Redemption 2, and more single player games
  • Which Precision? Is Full HD (1920×1080) or WQHD (2560×1440) enough or should it be 4K Ultra HD (3840×2160)?
  • Ultra/high/medium/low graphics settings?
    • It would be so nice to finally be able to make something for my eyes 😉
  • 30 Is it enough for you? FPS Or should it be 60 or even 144 fps?
    • I think 60fps should be good, 144 would be perfect of course

2. Would you like to use your computer to edit photos/music/videos or CAD? As a hobby or are you a professional? What software will you use?

Games will be the priority. VR programming is the only thing to add, but I think the PC will probably be VR ready anyway (eg with HP Reverb G2 and Oculust Rift S).

3. Do you have special requirements or wishes (overclocking, a particularly quiet PC, RGB lighting, …)?
I avoid overclocking because I don’t have much knowledge. It shouldn’t be RGB (or at least it can be turned off), quiet would be fine, but not necessary (I’m used to noise now).

4. How many screens do you want to use? Number, Model, Resolution, Refresh Rate (Hertz)? Do you support FreeSync (AMD) or G-Sync (Nvidia)? (Please with a link to the manufacturer or compare prices!)
Gigabyte G27Q Gaming Monitor, 27 inch, QHD, 144Hz, AMD FreeSync (https://www.gigabyte.com/de/Monitor/G27Q#kf)
A second similar screen may be added at a later time.

5. Do you still have an old computer, parts of which can be reused? (Please with links to specifications from the manufacturer or compare prices!)
Not right. As already written, almost all components of my current PC are from 2012 and some of them are already in trouble. I only want to take 2 hard drives (Samsung HD103UJ and Samsung HD250HJ) and an old DVD drive with me.

6. How much money do you want to spend?
2000 – 2500 Euro

7. When do you want to buy the computer? ASAP or can you wait a few weeks/months?
immediately or soon.

8. Do you want to assemble the computer yourself or assemble it (by the store or by volunteers)?
I would really like to put it together (100-150 euros more would be fine for me) if I could start as soon as it arrived, everything is set correctly and Windows is already installed, for example.

Ray tracing of course would be the icing on the cake, but because of the monitor (FreeSync) I’d almost certainly choose an AMD graphics card and if I read that right all around, ray tracing probably isn’t that far off yet.

For up to 2 monitors + VR-HMD, 3 DisplayPort / HDMI connections will be very good. Otherwise, I would find at least 2x USB 3.X and at least 1x USB-C connection on the front of the case very practical.

The PC should rock the latest games on very high graphics settings for the next few years. We’ll see if it lasts/should last another 10 years…

Thank you for your help in advance!
