The search for the passengers of the Carnival cruise ship who jumped overboard is suspended

Carnival Cruise Line officials told WESH 2 that a passenger jumped overboard Sunday as the ship was returning to Jacksonville, and according to Matt Lupoli, senior director of public relations, crew members were notified that the man was missing by his traveling companion. “Unfortunately, after a thorough onboard search and surveillance camera video review, it was determined that he had jumped,” Lupoli said. The Carnival Illusion was on a four day trip in the Bahamas and returned Monday morning. Coast Guard officials searched more than 1,000 miles for a 30-year-old man who went overboard when the ship was 95 miles east of Melbourne. The search was suspended Monday night. “We offer our deepest condolences to the Hill family,” said Officer Eric Rodriguez, D7. “Our crews take the job of saving lives very seriously. Any time we can’t bring home a loved one is a pain we all feel.” TOP HEADLINES: Hear news and weather headlines with the WESH 2 podcast Florida areas are among the areas most at risk for declining home prices
