NOZ Podcast about Transrapid: What’s Still Fascinating About the Technology

Click play now and listen to the fourth episode, “Transrapid”:

Some people have made it their mission to ensure that doesn’t happen. We meet two of them in the fourth episode of our podcast “Transrapid – From Miracle to Tragedy” and we want to know: What surprises you most about the seemingly failed technology?

Norbert Holtermann provides answers to this question. Not only did he grow up with the Transrapid, but he is now the mayor of his home city of Lathen, which is also the home of the Transrapid. He also played a key role in ensuring the launch of the Transrapid Emsland Support Association in November 2021.

Lathen was released from the “Image of the Lost Place”.

The stated aims of the association, also headed by Holtermann: to preserve the technology, maglev trains and other exhibits, to preserve the memory of the Transrapid and, in this regard, to free Lathen from the image of the “lost place”.

The work so far proves Holtermann and his fellow club volunteers right. In the summer of 2022, they reopened the Visitor Center on Herman Kemper Boulevard for the first time. The response has been overwhelming from the beginning and it continues to be great. As club vice president Ansgar Schlüter reported recently, several hundred guests flock to the visitor center on weekends.

The TR07 road in front of the center is particularly attractive, along which visitors are guided in groups. The club has been working on preparing it for some time so that it will no longer be exposed to wind and weather. Among other things, there are considerations about the train’s ceiling.

David Harder: Not a day goes by without Transrapid

David Harder is one of Transrapid’s greatest enthusiasts. According to the young man from Maybin, not a day goes by without this fascination captivating him. Harder also tells us in our podcast where this enthusiasm comes from and how he lives it.

In the fourth episode, the grandson of Transrapid inventor Hermann Kemper has his say again. His family bought the last German model of the Transrapid at auction.
