Face Express will allow passengers to enter and undergo various airport procedures in an easy way (check-in, baggage delivery, security check, boarding gate, etc.) without the need to present their passport and boarding pass.
NEC announced that the operator of Narita International Airport (NRT), Narita International Airport Corporation (NAA), operator of Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport, HND), Tokyo International Air Terminal (TIAT), in April 2021 began the “Face Express test” “Bio-IDiom”, a new ascent for international flights departing, which uses facial recognition technology through the facial recognition system that belongs to the NEC group of advanced biometric authentication technologies, “Bio-IDiom” known for the world’s most advanced level of accuracy.
Face Express will allow passengers to access and undergo various airport procedures in an easy way (check-in, baggage drop-off, security check, boarding gate, etc.) without the need to show your passport and boarding pass, and only record your face photo. All this will provide a simpler procedure, and since there is no contact, it will reduce the risk of infection caused by personal contact.
This new boarding procedure is known as a “single identifier” in the aviation industry, however NEC has been interested in creating the name and slogan, “Face Express” so that passengers can understand the service in a more meaningful way. The Face Express will now be used at both Narita International Airport and Tokyo International Airport.
