NBA commissioner lauds Wembanyama’s media handling of

“At 7-foot-4, he’s going to get noticed no matter what he’s doing and no matter where he is,” said NBA’s Adam Silver.

SAN ANTONIO β€” NBA commissioner Adam Silver says San Antonio Spurs rookie player Victor Wimpanyama handled the unusual incident between his security and Britney Spears and the ensuing media circus in Las Vegas “very well.”

“I think the media covered him in an intense way, but that’s part of being in the NBA and definitely comes with being the first pick,” Silver told the New York Post.

“At 7-foot-4, he’s going to get noticed no matter what he’s doing and no matter where he is, and I think he handles it incredibly well,” He said.

Spurs claimed Spurs security slapped her when she tried to ask Wimpanyama to give her an autograph.

After the Las Vegas Police Department investigated the claim, Spurs security was cleared of any wrongdoing and noted that Spears had struck herself in the video of the incident.

Wimpanyama spoke about the incident, saying he did not know it was Spurs.

Despite his acquittal, and his apology by Tottenham security after the incident, Spurs continue to demand a public apology from Wimpanyama, Tottenham or security.

“Honestly, the league is dependent on media coverage,” said Silver. β€œHe’ll adjust to it over time. Based on the time I’ve had with him, I think he can.”

Silver also expressed confidence in the Spurs to help Wimpanyama adjust the NBA.

“I have great faith in the San Antonio Spurs and the Players Association, who also continue to work with him,” Silver said.

The rookie Spurs finished their time in the 2023 Las Vegas Summer League after two games.

He will now take some time to prepare for his first NBA season in the offseason.
