Munich continues to lag behind Berlin when it comes to tech founders

Munich/Berlin – Munich still lags behind emerging city Berlin when it comes to tech start-ups. The Technical University of Munich plays a central role here, from which a particularly large number of start-ups have emerged.

This is evidenced by a study conducted by the Berlin venture capitalist Morvais, on which the newspaper “Welt am Sonntag” reported. In it, the Berliner analyzes last year’s German start-ups in which new technological ideas are at the heart of the business model. Nearly a quarter of alleged deep tech founders started in Bavaria in 2022. At 19 percent, Berlin is the second most powerful deeptech location.

Industrial locations in Baden-Württemberg and NRW follow Deep-Tech’s third and fourth places. With 35 startups, TU Munich surpasses RWTH Aachen with 11 and TU Berlin with ten new deep-tech startups. Last year, 275 deep tech startups emerged in Germany. Because of the boom in artificial intelligence (AI), it has been much more than in previous years.

On the other hand, the number of all new startups decreased from 3,290 companies in 2021 to only 2,402 companies in 2022. However, when it comes to the venture capital raised, the situation seemed worse for founders in the deep tech sector than in boom companies. emerging in 2021.
