Technology giant Microsoft said it will invest $2.2 billion in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure in Malaysia to support the country's digital transformation, following similar announcements in Indonesia and Thailand.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella's announcement on Thursday includes plans to create a Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence and provide education and training for 200,000 people in the Southeast Asian country.

“We are committed to supporting the AI ​​transformation in Malaysia and ensuring that it benefits all Malaysians,” Nadella said during his visit to Kuala Lumpur on the last leg of his three-nation tour in Southeast Asia.

“Our investments in digital infrastructure and skills will help Malaysian businesses, communities and developers apply cutting-edge technologies to drive inclusive economic growth and innovation across the country.”

Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Malaysia's Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, said the investment reflects a “deep partnership built on trust.”

“Indeed, Malaysia’s position as a vibrant technology investment destination is increasingly recognized by globally recognized names due to our well-established semiconductor ecosystem, which is underscored by our value proposition that says ‘This is where globalization begins,'” ​​he said. .
