Medion’s powerful high-end notebook has been completely revamped in its latest incarnation: new chassis, variable display format (16:10 instead of 16:9), mechanical keyboard (Cherry MX switches). As an optional accessory, Medion also has external water cooling, which will cost around 250 euros. Their tasks: increase performance and reduce heat and noise.
With two high-end computing cores (Core i9-13900HX, GeForce RTX 4090), the system is equipped for performance-demanding applications such as video editing, rendering, and gaming. Two PCIe 4 SSDs provide the necessary storage space (2 x 1 TB) and ensure short loading times. The notebook can run in Optimus or dGPU mode. Advanced Optimus is supported.
The X40 is designed for QHD+ gaming at maximum settings. Higher resolutions can be used if a corresponding monitor is connected – 2 video outputs available (1x HDMI, 1x DP). There is a 17-inch matte screen (2560 x 1600 pixels, IPS, 240 Hz) in 16:10 format on board, which knows how to please most of the time.
The mechanical keyboard (with RGB single-key lighting) generally left a good impression and will be an important criterion for many potential buyers. A Thunderbolt 4 slot opens up expansion options in the form of a docking solution or an external GPU. This is complemented by good battery run times.
This X40 model is available for around 4,500 euros. Medion also has a slimmer version (RTX 4080, 1TB SSD, rest is identical) priced around €3,500.
