Masahiro’s Sakurai’s incredible ambition over the past ten years or so has led to the emergence of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a final product, something Sakurai himself believes would likely be his “life’s work”. There are said to be 190 game series represented in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in some form, all true to the desires of each source IP. Really, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a celebration of gaming.
We can probably thank Masahiro Sakurai for all of this, but one has to wonder how Sakurai managed to be so knowledgeable about all of these game series. As it turns out, Sakurai himself is an avid gamer and lover of all kinds of games.
In a special cross-over video with Retro Game Master, the self-proclaimed “Father of All Let’s Play Games,” we take a look at Sakurai’s gaming skills and knowledge during the competition between these two guys. It appears that Sakurai planned out the games they would play and chose to stick to the arcade theme – more specifically, “Space Invaders Decade”.
As such, the two compete in Space Invaders, Galaxian, Asteroids, Pac-Man, Crazy Climber, Scramble, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug, and Moon Patrol challenges. Super Smash Bros. How important Galaxian, Pac-Man, and Donkey Kong are in Smash Ultimate, though Sakurai points out that 75m is a stage in the series’ newest entry.
Sakurai seems to be fairly confident in his playing skills because he only has one chance. One mistake can be costly, and it’s especially easy to make during a two-on-one conversation. As for the Retro Game Master, he gets two or three chances before losing the challenge.
