Mariah Carey's mother and sister tragically die on the same day

“My heart is broken because I lost my mother last weekend,” the singer said in a statement to TMZ. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister also lost her life that same day.”

“I feel so happy that I was able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away,” Maria added.

She concluded her message by saying, “I appreciate everyone’s love, support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

The causes of Patricia and Allison's death are not yet known.
