Mariah Carey She is allegedly, ironically, a major miser…she was sued for the blockbuster Christmas song, with another artist claiming that his song – of the same name – inspired her song.
Maria is being sued for copyright infringement by Andy Stonewho says he co-wrote and recorded a song called “All I Want For Christmas Is You” two years before the MC dropped her hit single with that title.
According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, Andy claims he scored his back in 1989 in Nashville, and says he got a massive broadcast and hit the Billboard charts during the 1993 Christmas season, filming a music video.
Andy’s problem is… Maria released her version in 1994, along with her music video, and we all know how hugely successful it has been since then.
Andy claims that Maria and her camp never sought or obtained permission to use this nickname.
Now, while everyone knows Mariah’s song, the truth is that it sounds very different from Andy’s tune – different lyrics, different melody… Outside of the title, it’s undoubtedly not the same song.
TMZ broke the story… Mariah’s version is a real cow, recently Breaking the plateau of a billion streamsShe puts millions of dollars into her pocket every year.
Andy wants a piece of that pie… he’s going after Maria for at least $20 million in compensation.
It’s hard to see how this song holds up in court – a lot of songs have the exact same title or even the exact same title, but hey…Andy wants it.
We have contacted Maria’s team…so far there has been no response.
