To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the legendary Mafia series, the developers of Mafia 3 and Mafia Definitive Edition reveal their big plans. In an interview published on the Hangar 13 blog, General Manager Roman Hladyk confirmed that an entirely new Mafia game is in the works.
“I am happy to officially announce that development work for the new Mafia game has begun!” He explains, making the hearts of all fans of the series beat even faster. But do not be too happy: the release of the next Mafia title is still “a few years” away. More details, in which direction the next mafia will develop, can not be shared at the moment. However, one cannot wait to “follow the popular story and let our fans immerse themselves in new stories,” Hladek concludes.
Mafia 4? prefix? – Open-ended questions and many answers
Accordingly, it has not yet been said that Mafia 4 will be called Mafia 4 at all. There was a rumor some time ago that the next Mafia game could be a prequel to the previous series, which is set to take place in the 1920s and the events before the first part, which was played in the 1930s.
Developer Hangar 13 has taken over the popular franchise and recently developed Mafia 3 and Mafia: Definitive Edition. Officially where the next mafia will lead us is still not completely known. In the Detailed interview on the anniversary General Manager Roman Hladec and Head of Production and Media Tomasz Hibiczyk, who have worked on every game since the original game, as well as Game Director Alex Cox, who has been in business since Mafia 2, answer many questions about creation, development, experiences and more.
It’s about their personal stories, favorite moments, lessons, heroes, and their impressions about all the mafia games.
Mafia 1 is awarded away on Steam
As Publisher 2K also reveals, the original Mafia 1 will be awarded via Steam. So if you want to go back to the beginnings, the Mafia can be saved completely free and permanently to your game library from September 1st to September 5th 2022. Great gift for the community that fits the 20th anniversary.
Mafia 1 was released in 2002 and was created by developer Illusion Softworks before Mafia: Definitive Edition of Hangar 13 was released on September 25, 2020 and a few things are reviewed. If you want a direct comparison, you now have the perfect opportunity to do so. The Definitive Edition not only brings technical innovations with it, but also changes the rhythm of movement in slow points, emphasizing Sarah’s personality even more and creating a completely new feel for the game in general.
You can find out for yourself what these changes are based on starting Thursday, September 1, 2022 when you secure the original Mafia 1 for your Steam library:
