Madonna spoke about her position as a pioneer of women in the entertainment industry in a message shared on her Instagram Story on Saturday.
The 64-year-old songwriter touched on the outrage she received during her decades-long career as the ‘Queen of Pop’ – specifically who has been defamed for her hyper-sexualized persona.
The Grammy-winning performer believes she “paved the way” for the likes of Miley Cyrus, Cardi B and pop culture icon Kim Kardashian.

Madonna started her post by talking about her iconic sexual picture book, which came out in 1992. The outspoken book sparked outrage while also being praised for its sophisticated nature.
She wrote, “30 years ago I published a book called SEX In addition to pictures of me nude, there were pictures of men kissing men, a woman kissing a woman and me kissing everyone.”
“I’ve also written about my sexual fantasies and shared my view on sex in a sarcastic way,” Madonna continued.
The Borderline singer went on to express that she has been the target of criticism from less extroverted individuals.

The artist continued to share a duo of videos of her story, as she sat down for an interview about her book.

Madonna went on to express her interest in popular responses to the content of her posts.
“I think people’s reactions to certain situations in the book were more of a reflection of that person than me,” she said.
