Lautsalat – party game with listening and noise

Anyone who wants to see a genie in a bottle playing drums on the farm during a thunderstorm should pick up the party game Lautsalat by Hjalmar Hach and Lorenzo Silva (Schmidt Spiele). However, you also need two to six other people who are willing to explore the wildest background noise with you. Because it is about listening.

You only need a few simple steps to set it up and you are ready to go. The eavesdropper places on one of the cups. Players produce sounds that match the term they drew. Since everyone is making noises at the same time, there is a big mess that is guaranteed to be funny.

As soon as the hourglass runs out, there is instant silence. Now the eavesdropper can accept the glasses and the big guess begins. In large groups (six or more people) the recorder (one of the players) can support the listener by “playing back” the sounds he has heard, which will certainly cause new laughter.

Of course, the question is whether the eavesdropper guesses right or wrong. But for me, the real attraction of the game is the complete cooperation, communication, and thinking in relation to other players. We had to laugh a lot and that always registers with me.

At first, you don’t think this will be necessary at all (because there is such a mess in the beginning…), but over time the security evolves and the app can help create new excitement.

Suboptimal glasses

I have to treat the glasses again: I don’t find it successful. The game is intended for people ages 8 and up. However, the glasses barely stay on the nose and sometimes have to be held, which disturbs the listening position. Investing more money to find better glasses will definitely be worth it.

But plastic cups will also be better than the thin cardboard glasses that are included at parties where players are no longer fully conscious. Either way, I think the party game is otherwise a success. These are the pluses:
