Zotac is one of several PC manufacturers like Asus and MSI to launch their own gaming laptop. While Asus has had a lot of success with the ROG Ally, no other gamer has been able to scratch the Steam Deck’s success to any great extent. Zotac certainly wants to try that with the Zotac Zone. The AMD Ryzen 7 8840U based on Zen 4 is at the core and the AMD Radeon 780M serves as the GPU.
There’s also 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. The Zotac Zone’s AMOLED display has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The manufacturer says the maximum brightness is 800 nits. The device weighs about 692 grams and measures 310 x 135 x 40mm. The manufacturer states a 48.5 watt-hour battery. Like most competitors, it uses Hall effect sticks and triggers, a fingerprint scanner in the power button, and a microSD card slot for expanding storage.
As for other interfaces, there are two USB4 ports, a 3.5mm audio jack, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2. There is also a 1MP front-facing camera. Stereo speakers help with audio. It charges with an included 65W charger via USB-C. As an optional accessory, Zotac also offers a docking station that is not only used for charging, but also has additional interfaces – Ethernet, HDMI, and USB 3.0. An additional SSD can also be installed in the dock. The Zotac Zone can also be connected to displays or smart TVs via the charging dock. The concept is reminiscent of the Nintendo Switch.
In Germany, the Zotac Zone costs €849. Pre-orders will be available soon on z.b. Alternative and caseking possible. The optional dock called Zotac Gaming Docking Station costs €79. The second accessory bundle with the case costs €29. In direct comparison with the Asus ROG Ally X, which costs €899 but is superior in terms of RAM and storage space, the Zotac Zone seems a bit pricey.
