The King’s Singers and their fellow A-listers embark on a successful journey through one hundred years of Disney songs.
If Hollywood is a dream factory, then Disney World is the mega dream factory. With music, escapism strategies are most effective. That’s why the entertainment group focused on movie songs early on. Now the King’s Singers have taken a few of them, from “Pinocchio” to “Mary Poppins” and “Jungle Book” and “Pocahontas” to “Coco” from 2017. They’ve invited guests to do just that. Not only are the numbers performed in sophisticated vocal arrangements, but there are also some subtle instrumental accompaniments: with cello, piano, guitar or trumpet. Joyce DiDonato is among the invited singers. The result: kneel! Rich harmonies, rich color palette, transparent vocal texture, rhythmic and phrasing to the point, expressive, sometimes dramatic, sometimes comic. All participants paint from the perfection of their art. This opens up new dimensions for the genre.
