In a crossover that no one really expected, KFC encouraged thousands of players around the world to craft KFC-style fried chicken in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in a one-time event called The Recipe Run.
In The Recipe Run, players are tasked with tracking down oil, chicken, and eleven herbs and spices of their choice from around the world, then combining everything to make a delicious meal of fried chicken. It was a speedrunning challenge, so the goal was to do it as quickly as possible – and the winner received a $10,000 prize and a unique trophy.
Make chicken, make memories
The Recipe Run was more for fun than anything else, with KFC generating tens of millions of social media impressions for this take-out promotion. Accordingly For reports that discussed the eventKFC Spain alone registered more than 2,500 participants in the event, and included applicants from seventeen countries around the world.
For those who completed the challenge, special codes were handed out enabling them to claim a free meal at KFC – even if they didn’t win the unique chicken-themed trophy and grand cash prize of $10,000.
Here’s a trailer promoting the event (most of which is not in English):

I’m sorry. I had to.
