Kanpur metro inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi! Check trails, technology, facilities and other details

The foundation stone for the project was laid in October 2016, ahead of the 2017 legislative elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the Kanpur metro network. The foundation stone of the project was laid by the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav along with Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu in 2016. In 2019, the development work of the metro project started by CM Yogi Adityanath and so far a 9 km stretch of 32.5 km road has been completed kilometer. It is proposed that the Kanpur metro railway project will have two lanes. The first part of a 23.8 km corridor has been planned from IIT Kanpur to Naubasta district of Kanpur, while the second 8.6 km part has been proposed from Chandrashekhar Azad Agricultural University in Barra district of the city, IE reports.

The cost of the Kanpur metro railway project is around Rs 11,000 crore. The foundation stone for the project was laid in October 2016, ahead of the 2017 parliamentary elections. However, the current UP government has claimed that actual construction work on the 9-kilometre “priority section” began on November 15, 2019. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic Work on this section has been completed, the Yogi government said. Thus, CM Yogi ordered the Kanpur metro test on November 10, 2021.

Although the entire Kanpur railway project will take a long time to complete, the government has decided to continue in the priority section as the project is most needed to relieve traffic congestion in the city. This priority metro section will cover nine metro stations. The second section will connect Motigil to the Nagar Transport District, which is expected to contain underground metro stations. At the initial stage, it is planned to operate six metro trains on the 9-kilometer section of the priority corridor, and then add another six metro trains.

In the project, “regenerative braking” technology was used to save energy. The technology will ensure that for every 1,000 units used, about 35-45% of the units will be replenished. The Kanpur metro train project proposes to provide approximately 56 USB charging points for each train, an emergency response button and an extended stop request button for passengers with reduced mobility. In addition, the metro train plans to use 100% LED lights to reduce energy consumption. The report added that Kanpur Metro will also be equipped with LCD screens for entertainment and information, as well as CCTV cameras.
