“Kametstal” expands the range of steel products manufactured using economical technology

Metinvest Group's Kametstal plant, built on the site of the Dnipro Metallurgy Plant (DMK, Kamyansky, Dnipro region), expands the range of steel that can be smelted using economical technology by preheating scrap.

According to the company, the peculiarity of the effective technology of heated smelting is that the scrap is heated with oxygen and carbon gas immediately after being fed into the converter and before pouring the liquid iron. In this way, the use of scrap can be increased, reducing the consumption of liquid iron in steel production and thus also costs.

To develop and implement this technology, the BOF shop in Kametstal carefully selected the melting parameters, determined the amount of oxygen and carbon gas for heating, established the optimal conditions for heating the scrap to prevent the formation of the liquid phase during the casting of iron ore, and blown the melt. Conditions are set.

“The proven technology has proven cost-effective in meeting the standards and quality requirements of steel produced in the converter. Therefore, steel producers continue to develop and improve their performance by systematically increasing the melting ratio with preheating of the scrap and reducing the consumption of liquid iron in steel production.”

“Kamytstal was founded on the basis of the Dnipro Coke and Chemical Works (DKKhZ) and the Central Steel Plant of the Dnipro Metallurgical Plant (DMK).

According to the 2020 report of the parent company of Metinvest Group, Metinvest BV (Netherlands) owns 100% of DCCP shares.
