Ka-König – card game review, criticism and test

With Ku-Ka-König by Reinhnard Staupe (Kendi Games), we are dealing with a pure card game that is quickly explained. Depending on the number of players, up to eight rows of three cards are laid out each.

How does Ku Ka King work?

The goal of Ku-Ka-König is to collect as many cards of the same suit as possible. This is done by each player choosing three cards from a specific row. Now, after saying “Ku-Ka-King” together, everyone shows with the fingers of both hands the row of cards they have chosen.

  • If he is the only one who wants a particular row, he takes the three placed cards and places them face up in front of him.
  • If multiple players choose the same row, the first visible card is removed. Now the remaining players choose a new row. This is repeated until each player has chosen a different row.

The rows are then filled again with three cards and the next round begins. When a player has 13 or more cards, the first round ends and the second and final round begins. The winner is the one who collects the most points at the end.

The ratings on the cards are self-explanatory: the more cards of one type you have, the more points you get. It should be noted that after the first round, cards with a red cross are returned to the box and only those with a green cross remain valid.

Is the card game Ku-Ka-King fun?

The big advantage of this card game is that there are no long waiting times for single players, as several actions can be performed at the same time. You just have to wait until all players decide in a row. It's a quick and easy game – even for younger players.

The finger pointing game mechanic is very entertaining and not common in games. A couple of rounds are played quickly and it's easy to repeat the game because the game is just fun.
