Jacksonville, Florida The first full moon of 2024 will light up the night sky on Thursday.
On Thursday, January 25, skygazers can look up at the night sky at January's full moon known as the “Wolf Moon.”
The January full moon is known as the “Wolf Moon” because of “the packs of wolves whose howls were heard outside the villages amid the deep, cold winter snows.” According to NASA.

The Old Farmer's Almanac said the moon will reach peak illumination on Thursday at 12:54 p.m. EDT.
The moon will rise from the northeastern horizon at sunset. The golden hour will be between 7:20 a.m. and 7:57 a.m. and 5:21 a.m. and 5:56 p.m. on Thursday, according to Moon phase.
In northeastern Florida and southeastern Georgia, clouds may play a role in how well we can see the moon. There is a 50% chance of rain Thursday night. As Thursday approaches, we will learn about the best times to look at the sky. Click here for more weather news.
