It looks like Google is working on an AI lighting tool for Chrome OS

Earlier this year, Google announced several new features for its generative AI tools, but new information stated that it may be working on AI writing and editing tools for Chromebooks.

Already out there, there are AI creation tools (such as Write to Me and Help Me Write) built into Google Workspace apps like Gmail and Google Docs, and for consumers, Magic Compose has been added, which can be used in Google Messages.

Speaking of Chromebooks and generative AI tools, it was revealed earlier this year that Google was working on integrating Bard into Chromebooks as a chatbot, but has since reportedly dropped it.

However, according to a new report by 9to5Google, the next product to incorporate AI could be ChromeOS, with no less than five codenamed projects in the works.

Of these, “Manta” is built to send the original text and selected presets to Google’s servers and back, so it’s not local like Google’s other generative AI tools. It must be sent to the server.

However, it is not clear at this time how these will behave, and what their ultimate functions will be. But it seems likely that Google is at least working on AI suggestions and rewrite tools that can be used on ChromeOS.
