I tried running Photoshop 2024 on Linux – GIGAZINE

Adobe's photo editing software “Photoshop” is only compatible with Windows and macOS, and is not compatible with Linux environments. I saw a post on the KC Forums internet forum about how to run Photoshop 2024 on Linux, so I decided to give it a try to see if it was actually possible.

First, install Wine to run Windows executable files on Linux.Wine Installation PageGo to and select your distribution. I'm running Ubuntu 22.04 this time, so I clicked on “Ubuntu”.

Run the commands as shown on the page. Note that there are places along the way where the code differs between versions.

Scroll down the page and enter the rest of the commands. Since we are installing the stable version this time, we have executed the “stable branch” command.

Create a “.wine” directory in your home directory and configure Wine settings using “winecfg”.

mkdir .wine
cd .wine
winecfg

When the GUI below is displayed, open the Libraries tab, enter netapi32 in the New Library Override field, click Add, and then click OK.

When running Photoshop on Linux, authentication cannot be performed by Adobe CC, soAdobe-GenBUse the . on a computer with Photoshop installed.Adobe-GenP release pageAccess to “Adobe-GenP-“[バージョン番号]Click on the zip code.

Click on the downloaded zip file and click “Extract All” to extract it to a folder.

Click Search to automatically detect installed Adobe products.

Check all Photoshop related files and click “Patch”.

Next, move the Photoshop files to Linux. It's okay if you move “Adobe Photoshop 2024” located in “C:\Program Files\Adobe” to “~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Adobe”.

It should look like this.

Similarly, move the “Adobe” folder located in “C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files” to “~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files(x86)/Common Files”.

Also open “C:\Windows\System32” and enter “coremessaging” in the search field at the top right, and look for “CoreMessaging.dll” which is displayed as “~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop 2024”. Moved to.

Using the same procedure, move the below dll file to “~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop 2024”.

Enter the command below to start Photoshop.

For the first time only, click Install when the following dialog box appears to install the necessary packages.

Photoshop started successfully. However, it was not compatible with Japanese, and distorted characters appeared in many parts.
