The Witcher 4 won't be “The Witcher 3 with better graphics.” CD Projekt wants to bring some fresh air to the franchise. More than 400 developers are already working on the new Witcher game.
According to a recent annual report, Michal Nowakowski, one of the publisher's managing directors, confirms that the development team is willing to take creative risks and introduce innovative gameplay elements and mechanics. This had not yet been seen in its ancestors.
Two important changes have been known for some time. On the one hand, the Special Red Engine has been replaced by the Unreal Engine. This could, in theory, among other things, enable the creation of larger open worlds.
On the other hand, the main character Geralt of Rivia should not serve as a central character. However, who the main character will be remains a secret.
Dragon's Dogma 2 has come under fire in recent weeks for its microtransaction system. CD Projekt Red explains that there are no microtransactions planned for single-player content in The Witcher 4. So fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
CFO Piotr Nielubowicz explained that this business model did not fit into CD Projekt Red's single-player game world.
