One of the most famous folk poems in German literature has found its way to the stage: Conradin Kreutzer has adapted Schiller's “Diver” for an opera. However, if you look closely at the content, you will find that this adaptation has been completely selected and modified. The Stuttgart Kammerchor, the Stuttgart Hofkapelle and Frieder Bernius, who omitted all dialogue during their recording, show that it is still worth practicing. Bernius knows where to focus, where the brackets should flow. He works out virtuoso melodies and passages, weak duets and dramatic melodies with vitality and conscientiousness, showing that Kreutzer's music can find a good place in the repertoire. While countertenor Philipp Mathmann raises some questions in the role of Ivo, soprano Sarah Wegener stands out positively in the role of Duke Alphonsine's daughter.
