No foul play is suspected in the death of Christian singer Mandisa — four days after she was found dead in her home, Franklin Police Department officials said Monday.
Mandisa, a Grammy Award winner born in Citrus Heights, California as Mandisa Lynn Hundley, was 47 years old.
The singer died suddenly at her home in Franklin and was found on Thursday. Police officials said Hundley was identified by the medical examiner.
“At this time, there is no indication that the death was the result of suspicious or criminal activity,” police spokesman Max Wenitz said. “The Franklin Police Department sends its condolences to Hundley’s family, friends and fans.”
The suspected cause of her death was not provided Monday.
Initially, police would only say they were working at a home that matched the address listed in public records for the “American Idol” graduate. The talent agency Media Collective, which represented Hundley, confirmed her death on Friday. But the company did not provide any idea about the cause of her death.
Hundley graduated from Fisk University, where she was a member of the famous Fisk University Jubilee Singers, in 2000.
In 2005, Hundley appeared on “American Idol” and made it to the top nine contestants. Her career as a Christian artist blossomed from there. She released her debut album, “True Beauty,” in 2007 and debuted on the top Christian album charts with her debut single, “Only the World.”
Hundley won Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for “Overcomer” at the 56th Grammy Awards in 2014.
As news of her death spread… Celebrities and other people who know Mandisa spoke out on social media, saying her music and lyrics inspired them when they needed it.
“Mandisa’s smile was like sunlight,” singer-songwriter Amy Grant said on Instagram.
“I have never met an artist more encouraging and supportive of other artists than Mandisa,” said frequent collaborator Tobimac.
