Apple is treading water when it comes to enforcing the Digital Markets Act and continues to push the issue to the limit. For example, it was decided to simply ban Epic as a developer because they were planning to create an Epic Games Store.
App Store alternatives have been allowed since iOS 17.4, but Apple didn't want Epic there and simply banned the company. This attracted some strong criticism because it seemed arbitrary, which is why the European Union commented on it directly as well.
It was completely arbitrary, because Apple reversed that decision over the weekend and reactivated Epic's developer account. The EU announcement may have been helpful, and Apple's reaction was very quick.
Epic Games is happy about this, as they have directly confirmed that the Epic Games Store for iOS will be coming as planned and we already know that Fortnite will be returning to the platform. There is no specific date, but it will happen in 2024.
Apple informed us and the European Commission promised that they would reactivate our developer account. We are moving forward as planned to launch the Epic Games Store and return Fortnite to iOS in Europe.
