Forrester Technology & Security Forecast 2025: Tech Leaders Will Triple AIOps Adoption to Reduce Tech Debt

Forrester Technology & Security Forecast 2025: Tech Leaders Will Triple AIOps Adoption to Reduce Tech Debt

Cambridge, Massachusetts. –

According to Forrester's (Nasdaq: FORR) 2025 Technology & Security Forecast, 75% of technology decision makers will see their technical debt increase to moderate or high levels by 2026. This is due to the rapid evolution of AI solutions, which increases the complexity IT landscape.

To stem the tsunami of technical debt, technology leaders will triple the adoption of artificial intelligence for IT operations (AIOps) platforms in 2025. This will provide contextual data to improve human judgment, automatically resolve incidents, and improve business outcomes. While AIOps is the future, IT leaders who want to run a high-performance IT organization must also invest in building the right culture, data, architecture, and security practices to accelerate business growth.

Forrester's Technology and Security Forecast analyzes emerging dynamics and trends to watch in the coming year. These insights will help leaders and their teams prepare for future challenges and seize new opportunities for success in 2025. Topics include: Artificial Intelligence; automation; technology leadership; cloud computing; Technical infrastructure and operations; Enterprise software, software development, cybersecurity, risk and data protection.

Here are Forrester's top technology and security predictions for 2025:

  • Private clouds will gain momentum with VMWare alternatives. In 2025, most major public cloud providers will increase investment in private clouds, but newcomers are unlikely to expand their business with dominant private cloud player VMware given recent changes in bundling and pricing.
  • Most companies focused on AI ROI will cut back on their investments prematurely. Executives realize that the return on investment for AI investments will take longer than expected. Impatience with AI ROI may lead companies to prematurely scale back their investments, which could be detrimental in the long run.
  • For the first time, the European Union will fine a generative AI provider under EU AI law. With the EU Office for Artificial Intelligence and data protection authorities joining forces, the provider of a general purpose artificial intelligence (GPAI) model will receive its first fine for violating EU AI law in 2025. As with the GDPR, EU AI law applies On companies operating in the EU, as well as companies that supply the EU with AI systems or GPAI models, regardless of where they are headquartered.

“In 2024, technology and security leaders conducted pilot projects within their organizations to explore innovative AI applications,” said Sharyn Lever, chief research officer at Forrester. “However, not all AI initiatives have achieved their intended business outcomes. As these bold experiments continue into 2025, leaders will also focus on putting lessons learned into action to ensure their investments deliver real business value.”
