FDP wants to switch to 1-watt technology: Beck: “Improve traffic light efficiency in Bochum!”

The FDP council group in Bochum wants to check whether all traffic lights in Bochum can be converted to “1-Watt” LED technology. I made a similar request for tomorrow’s meeting at the Mobility and Infrastructure Committee. “In the future, each traffic light system converted to 1-watt LED technology could save up to 85 percent in electricity compared to legacy traffic lights using conventional LED technology,” explains Léon Beck, FDP transportation policy spokesperson. Parliamentary group. “By using the latest light-emitting diodes, low power consumption is achieved with the same luminosity.”

The so-called “1-Watt” LED technology was developed for traffic light systems in order to significantly reduce energy consumption. With this conversion scale, existing carbon dioxide emissions can also be significantly reduced. In addition to electricity costs, the 1 watt signal transmitter will also reduce service costs in the future – thanks to the digital LED drivers: the status of the light-emitting diodes is continuously recorded via optical monitoring. In the future, it is envisaged to make a prediction about the likely time of failure so that signal heads can be serviced preventively and traffic chaos due to failed rush hour traffic lights becomes less likely.

“The administration must continue to determine what costs and CO2 emissions can be saved in Bochum and which subsidies can be used. The first cities in Germany have already converted their traffic light systems to 1-watt technology. With this conversion, Bochum can only do something For the scarcity of cash, but at the same time it makes an important contribution to greater sustainability and environmental protection, ”concludes Beck.
