ImWind is building a new solar farm in Mistelbach.

The photovoltaic project in Gauenstal (Mistelbach region) is expected to produce around 3,200 tons of CO2 per year.2 Save. The feed is directly via the existing wind farm infrastructure. Agricultural use of the areas is still possible. “A prime example of successful multi-use of infrastructure and land,” says Christoph Pinter, WKNÖ's lawyer.

The new solar park in Gäuenstal will eventually contain around 8,200 modules. The photovoltaic project is being implemented by the St. Pölten company ImWind, which has been building wind parks and photovoltaics for more than 25 years. For the planned photovoltaic system with an output of around 5 MW, the company is using “tracker modules” for the first time, which follow the path of the sun. This technology allows for more efficient electricity production. In addition, the modules can be aligned vertically in the so-called “farming mode”, which makes almost unrestricted agricultural use of the area possible.

Painter: “Grid expansion should not lead to higher electricity prices. Hybrid parks are a model for the future.”

The photovoltaic project in Gauenstal has already found a buyer for the electricity generated by the dm pharmacy chain. The system will supply around 70 branches with solar energy and thus cover around a sixth of the company's total electricity needs. According to WKNÖ lawyer Christoph, in order to enable more such projects in Lower Austria Painter New financing models: “When expanding grid infrastructure, it is essential to ensure that grid costs and additional fees do not lead to higher electricity prices. Through fair distribution of costs and predictable financing, we create incentives for local companies to invest in renewable energy.

“The multi-use of land and existing infrastructure is of particular importance for the successful implementation of the energy transition. This project shows how existing grids and substations for wind farms can be used for photovoltaic systems without further expansion, how agricultural land can be used efficiently for photovoltaic systems and how companies can also benefit from it,” emphasizes WKNÖ lawyer Christoph. Painter He notes: “For this purpose, the zoning of renewable energy generation systems (wind and photovoltaic) must be planned in such a way that the multiple use of the infrastructure is possible within the framework of hybrid parks and the areas of additional lines and substations are taken into account. We need political support here.”
