The $1 million funding was briefly in jeopardy, but now it is clear: funding for the research facility at the German Aerospace Center in Leona (Saxony-Anhalt) has been secured. The research project aims to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions, especially in aviation It is considered the largest facility of its kind in the world, and as announced by Saxony-Anhalt Minister of Infrastructure Lydia Hoskins (FDP), 30 million euros have been provided for the facility this year. By 2027 it will be 100 million euros.
“Further research into the potential of e-fuel is an absolute question for the future.”Hoskins confirmed. “E-fuel can be a game-changer, especially in fuel-intensive areas like aviation.”
The German Aerospace Center wants to start building a factory for so-called electronic fuel this year. The plant will initially produce hydrogen from renewable electricity and water. The synthetic crude oil is then extracted using chemical processes.
