The famous Disney animated movie Moana The company is getting a new live-action version announced Monday.

The remake of the 2016 movie is in development, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson who played the character Maui, he said in a video.

“It’s still very early days in this process,” he said. “There is a lot of work to be done.”

Moana Based on Pacific Islander cultures, it centers around “an adventurous teen who, aided by the demigod Maui… sets sail on a daring quest to prove herself as a roadblock and save her people,” according to Disney.

Johnson, whose mother is Samoan, will be a producer on the upcoming film and will reprise his role as Maui, which was inspired by Johnson’s late grandfather, Prime Minister Peter Maivia.

“I am so humbled and grateful to bring Moana’s beautiful story to the big live screen,” he said. “This story is my culture, and this story is a symbol of the grace of our people and the power of a warrior.”

Auli’i Cravalho, who is native of Hawaii and voiced the titular character, said that Moana “has had a profound impact on the way we think about Disney Princesses. Moana’s strength and perseverance are inspiring – to audiences around the world, to me and everyone who helped bring her to life.” I look forward to sharing her story in a whole new way.”

Cravalho will also be an executive producer on the project.

Disney said Moana It grossed approximately $644 million at the box office globally and was nominated for an Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe. The soundtrack won Grammy and Billboard Music Awards.
