The series travels across Europe and shows the personal, social and environmental benefits of digitalisation.
The first episode of the three-part documentary series “Being Digi-Sapiens” was released today by Warner Bros. Discovery, in which Swedish inventor, roboticist and YouTuber Simon Gertz travels across Europe to see how technology is changing our daily lives. The series was produced with the support of Huawei and showcases a wide range of digital innovations that go beyond the brand’s own products.
The first episode, “Connecting with Ourselves,” looks at the impact of digital technology on our homes, our health, and our hospitals. After starting out in a tech-enhanced home with fiber optics in Bonn, said to have one of the “fastest internet connections in Germany,” Simon heads to a cutting-edge sports and health lab to learn firsthand how professional and amateur athletes are benefiting from modern data collection. Finally, Simon visits Barcelona’s historic Hospital de la Santa Creu I Sant Pau for a crash course in how to use the latest technology to help patients more effectively.
“The idea of becoming ‘Digi-Sapiens’ represents the next step in our evolution as digital technology transforms our natural world, improves our skills and expands our capabilities,” said Vikram Channa, Vice President and Head of Content and Products, Warner Bros. Discovery Greater China and Southeast Asia. “The documentary aims to inspire viewers to use the power of technology wisely and creatively. It’s about showing how technology can improve our lives, solve real problems and unlock new possibilities.”
In the next two episodes, Simone will travel to other European countries to explore how technology helps connect us to our communities and our environment.
Smart Home in Bonn, Germany Huawei’s “Fiber to the Room (FTTR)” demo house in Bonn allows visitors to experience life in a world where networks interact at the speed of light at all times, regardless of how much data is being transmitted or where it is located. In the building, Simone takes the opportunity to have some video chats with herself, but her experience is suddenly interrupted by a digital evil spirit…
Wearable Health and Fitness Technology in Helsinki, Finland Elite athletes rely heavily on technology to precisely measure and improve their performance. The result is improved stride and endurance in runners, more efficient swimming strokes and a more balanced weight distribution on both legs when skiing. But it’s not just top athletes who can benefit. At Huawei’s state-of-the-art lab in Helsinki, Simone discovers that her biological age, according to the data on her watch, is younger than her age in calendar years. She also tries out a treadmill to determine her maximum lung capacity.
Sant Pau Hospital in Barcelona, Spain Sant Pau may be old, but it is by no means old. The hospital uses cutting-edge technology to improve the treatment of patients. When Simone visits Sant Pau’s Dimension Lab to explore the applications of virtual reality in medicine, the doctor presents her with a replica of a human heart made using a 3D printer. Simone had no idea it was so big…
Since 2020, Huawei has been Sant Pau’s leading strategic partner for advanced storage systems. Huawei has provided Sant Pau with an all-flash storage solution that gives medical staff near-instant access to patient data when needed. The solution features the latest backup, recovery, and anti-ransomware technologies, ensuring the highest level of protection for patients.
