Avanti, Avanti – Hurry now and go on vacation. I'm already looking forward to the next vacation. But where should you go? Ralph Zur Linde and Stefan Dora probably asked themselves that too and that's why they created Avanti! invented. Quickly combine the two films – and go on vacation – that's the subtitle. Published by Ravensburger.

What is Avanti about?

Who can combine the clues especially quickly and decide which travel destination they will go to first this year? At Avanti we try to find the travel destination using six clue cards.

Preparing the game

I place the six travel destinations in the middle of the table. I make sure it is clearly visible and accessible to everyone. I also randomly place the six colored mobile homes at the travel destination. Additionally, the map of the house with the hammock is a little out of the way, but easily accessible – without a mobile home.

All 19 clue cards are shuffled and six random cards are placed face down in a row. In the end, each of up to five players gets a colored player chip.

Avanti Rules – Game Course

Avanti is all about speed, as the name suggests. On command, each player takes a hidden clue, looks at it secretly and places it back in the middle of the table. But each player can decide for himself whether to return the card to its original place or to place it elsewhere on the table. Right after that I can take the next card, secretly look at it again and put it back. I can only use one hand at a time.

“What card don't I have yet? – Damn, I think this is the third time I've looked at this map.” When I think I know where I'm going on vacation this time, I put my sim card on the appropriate travel destination as quickly as possible. Now up to one other player can also choose this goal.

End of tour

If the penultimate player places his card, the last player is not allowed to see any more tips – but is still allowed to place his card. Ranking and points allocation in Aventi. Little by little, we discover clues together and lead the campers away from destinations we wouldn't go to.

The guide board shows a blue coach – and we will not be leaving in the blue coach. There is a canoe shown – the motorhome on the map comes with the canoe. The destination is not next to a green bus. The mobile homes to the left and right of the green bus were tucked away.

If there is one destination left now where there is still a camper van, this is the one chosen for this tour. All players whose point chips are on this target get points.

Sometimes multiple goals are possible. In this case, of course, all correct goals earn points. Rarely, after evaluation, there are no more campers at the travel destination – a clear case – maybe we should stay home. Whoever stands on the card with the swing gets the points.

Conclusion after rounds of testing

Avanti is a travel-sized mini toy. And it does exactly what it's supposed to do: it provides fun for two or three rounds.

As with almost all games where logical thinking and combinatorics are coupled with speed, in our test games, everyone only enjoyed them if their abilities were roughly the same. Once the player gets faster and faster, the fun quickly ends. For younger players, there is a rule whereby cards are revealed one at a time. It would be easier if everyone agreed that evidence would always be returned to where it was taken from. Avanti - Box - Photo by Ravensberger

Because Avanti was explained and played so quickly, it was easy to find fellow players to try out for my review. After that, this didn't appear regularly in our game runs.

I've used it a lot since then – in children's groups, where the children had to figure out together where the next trip was going. Then it was also linked to the movement – key pieces were distributed in the gym/at home, which saved us a lot of rainy evenings and taught the kids something about harmonics.
