Dimension: a puzzle game for one person

Dimension: a puzzle game for one person

A whopping 200 missions are included in the little box called Dimension. Logic game. The idea doesn’t seem that complicated. Ten stones must be placed on a small “board” observing some specification. It can’t be that difficult. or is it?

Dimension is from Lauge Luchau and is a single release From the multiplayer game of the same name. it is in Universe She appeared and dealt with it Single game To Knobler of 8 years.

Similarities with classics such as rush hour Inevitably, but somehow the dimension is a little heavier. Because the special feature of this puzzle game is that each mission contains some basic specifications, but not the specific stones. The first step is to understand the task and think about the components that contribute to the solution.

But before we get started, take a look at the material. Because this is well thought out and of first class quality. The small box contains a plastic box. Game pieces in a drawer. If you open the lid, you will find mission cards under it. The upper part of the cap, in turn, has indentations that fit into the stones. Because these are perfectly flattened and fitted into shapes. This is simply very well designed.

200 missions and only 15 stones…

Let’s move on to the tasks. The system is always the same. There are six indentations for a total of six stones. Above these stones are three more pyramid-shaped stones on the second level and one tip-shaped one on the third level. There are 15 stones, three of five colours. So it will be kind of a stacking game.

Now comes the difficulty: the tasks set the conditions. These can include various specifications such as:

  • Use x stones of one color.
  • The sum of the X stones must come from two or more colors.
  • All balls of one color must touch all balls of the other.
  • Two colors should be represented equally often.
  • A particular color cannot be at the same level as another colour.
  • Balls of one color must be repeated more often than balls of the other colour.
  • The color must be on at least one of the four corners (including the edge).
  • Three colors should form an exact row – also diagonally.
  • Balls of one color must touch all other colours.
  • All balls of one color must form a chain following certain rules.

This already seems a bit confusing. The only other requirement is the number of balls used. But what colors should the balls have there remains an open question. This is part of the logic problem.

How long does the solution take?

As expected, the first tasks are solved quickly. In addition, there is a certain educational effect. But with increasing difficulty and more complex specifications, a simple stretching task becomes a real brain teaser.

Experienced puzzlers will skip the first level once they understand the principle. But already in the second third of the missions, the challenge increases significantly. The last missions are real brain teasers that can also cause problems for experts.

Is Dimension logic interesting?

Under the dimension it says “Mind Games” on the packaging. I didn’t feel particularly challenged in the first third. But even these tasks will present difficulties for some, especially those of a younger age.

Mind Games are still quite appropriate. Because the brain “grows” later with the tasks. The middle levels are already very fragile, and after that they become very difficult. I really enjoyed that.

Easy initial tasks with stuttering

Despite good instructions, it was difficult to get started. How the stones are placed and what rules must be “read” and how, in my opinion, it is difficult to see at first. A more detailed example could have been appreciated. But: at least there is an explanation when you touch the stones.

Tactile pleasure – also with the application

The material is particularly successful. It’s fun to hold and play with. This version is also suitable as a travel game. If you wish, you can use an app to play the game. However, I haven’t tried these.

How is that supposed to work?

But the better challenge for me is that every task requires brainpower before the stones are placed: What stones should I actually use to get to the solution?

Dimension is a clear recommendation

In general, I am positively surprised by the little logic game. Therefore, I give a clear recommendation to fans of such mind games. Single dimension play is fun!
