DeLorean Alpha5 revealed as an electric coupe with 300 miles of range

DeLorean is officially back and ready to embrace the future by jumping on the electric bandwagon with the all-new Alpha5. Much like the inspiration, the iconic DMC-12, this one also takes the form of a stylish coupe with lighted doors by Italdesign. The massive top-hinged doors and rear glass air vents are the only nods to the past because the rest of the design is quite modern.

In keeping with today’s electric vehicles, they have huge wheels and slim front and rear lights. Its slim body hosts the charging port on the driver’s side front fender, so there’s no need to open the trunk to access the petrol cap. The Alpha5 features a two-tone finish and a retractable roofline reminiscent of the car it was famous for Back to the future trilogy.

Inside, the flux capacitor disappeared as it made way for two individual rear seats. As with the latest high-end electric vehicles, it dispenses with most (if not all) traditional controls as everything is contained within the touchscreen located on a “floating” center console. The driver has a wide digital instrument cluster and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Reaching the rear seats should be easy because of how spacious gullwing doors are and lack of column b.

DeLorean remains shy about details about the driveline, but says the Alpha5 needs 3.4 seconds to 60 mph (96 km/h) and tops out at 150 mph (241 km/h). It has a battery with a capacity of over 100 kWh, which is good for an EPA-estimated range of over 300 miles (483 km). Keep in mind that all of these specs apply to the “base performance model,” indicating that hotter versions are on the way.

We also know that the electric coupe has a remarkably low drag coefficient of just 0.23, which isn’t the best in the field as Mercedes achieved a 0.20 Cd with EQS . Bounce. Fortunately, there isn’t a weak Peugeot-Renault-Volvo V6 petrol engine anymore, it’s been replaced with an unspecified electric setup that will go from 0 to 88 mph (142 km/h) in 4.35 seconds, after which it probably won’t travel across time.

It is much larger than its predecessor, measuring 4,995 mm (196.6 in) long, 2,044 mm (80.4 in) wide, and 1,370 mm (53.9 in) high when the gull wing doors are closed. DeLorean says it has outsourced production to Italy while the powertrain will be supplied by a supplier from the UK.

only 88 (naturally!) The cars will be manufactured, with a V8-powered sports coupe to follow. If all goes according to plan, the expanded lineup will include an electric sedan and even a hydrogen-powered SUV. After debuting in August at Pebble Beach, DeLorean Alpha5 will enter production in 2024.
