From waffle dough to natural leather
MAKRA FLADE was initially developed to design genuine leather. This is highly demanded and used, among other things, for equipment on the inside of vehicles. “Leather is often embossed, embroidered, or laminated to achieve the desired pattern,” says Matthias Krapel. “We wanted to create something new and have a 3D look out of real leather. However, due to the difficulty of stretching natural skin, we first had to invent a suitable process. We succeeded with MAKRA FLADE.”
MAKRA FLADE creates unprecedented possibilities for form and design. The founder and general manager’s pioneering idea came at Sunday brunch: “While preparing the waffles, it occurred to me whether the skin could be molded with the help of foam, which spreads like waffle batter?”
The first tests showed that the idea worked and Krabel put it into practice with MAKRA FLADE. Unlike hot stamping, inconspicuous transitions are also possible. Especially flat profiles can be achieved using the now internationally patented process with a design height of up to 8mm and can be produced in freely selectable pieces.
“Each client can develop their own unique design. Designs can be flexibly changed at any time in the existing tool, for example, combining them with decorative stitches and embroidery patterns”, adds Matthias Krappel.
Waterproof covers are also possible
Thanks to its innovative technology, Makra Pro is already working with many vehicle and motorcycle outfitters. In addition to real leather designs, waterproof covers and pieces of other textiles were also implemented.
As a partner of Formlabs, Makra Pro will be present at HANNOVER MESSE in April 2023. Visitors can see MAKRA FLADE for themselves there.
