Commercial Vehicles Trade Fair: Auto Mechanics: UFI Hydrogen presents H2 technology – Fuel Cells | News | nfz-messe.com

Various applications

Founded in 2023, UFI Hydrogen focuses on developing membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) with catalyst-coated membranes (CCMs), which are critical to proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers. These MEAs enable the efficient production and conversion of green hydrogen into electricity. They can be used outside of fuel cells in various applications, including power generation, industrial processes, and even local power supply.

UFI Filters has been researching and developing products related to the use of hydrogen in fuel cells and the associated filtration requirements since 2017. UFI Hydrogen was in turn the only Italian company included in the EU Hy2Move programme IPCEI (Important Project of Common European Interest) this year. As part of this programme, the European Commission is supporting projects to promote hydrogen mobility with up to €1.4 billion.

Giorgio Girondi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of UFI Filters Group. “By 2028, we will invest around €50 million in UFI Hydrogen and create up to 100 new jobs in this business area. We have also signed an agreement with the Province of Trento for a €4 million co-investment in innovative research projects for electrolyzer membranes.

Membranes are essential for both the electrochemical separation of hydrogen and oxygen from water and the catalytic conversion of hydrogen into electricity.

Series production from 2025

UFI Hydrogen is constantly developing MEA technology. At the same time, the company is promoting cost-effective production and use of green hydrogen as well as developing green fuels for the next generation of green mobility.

Marco Lazzaroni, CEO of UFI Hydrogen, announced that serial production of UFI Hydrogen could start from 2025: “14,000 square meters2 A large production facility for the production of MEA technology is scheduled to open at the end of this year in Serravalle, Trento, Italy. UFI Hydrogen’s MEAs are based on “Made in Italy” technology and manufacturing know-how, and are also supported by the strong presence of the UFI Group in China. We have an agreement with our joint venture partner Sinopec, the largest oil and petrochemical company in the Far East, under which 5,000 sq.2 “The new UFI Green plant in Jiaxing will be dedicated to UFI’s hydrogen business.”

In addition to hydrogen-related innovations, UFI Filters Group presented filtration technologies and thermal management solutions at Automechanisa.
