Former reality TV star Collin Gosselin had hoped to become a member of the armed forces after joining the Navy when he graduated from high school last year.
But his dreams of serving his country were shattered when he discovered that the “Jon & Kate Plus 8” star had been institutionalized earlier.
When asked if he was officially “in the Marines” yet, Colin said, Entertainment tonight, “Not anymore,” he said, explaining that the decision was ultimately not his choice.

“I got laid off,” he said. “It was at the end of my training, very close to graduation. They checked the papers, and they found out that I had actually been institutionalized at some point in my life. And look, they don’t need any deeper reason. Being institutionalized, that’s good enough, you know, to get me laid off.”

“It was just the fact that I was in an institution and that's it.”
Representatives for Jocelyn's family and the U.S. Marine Corps did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
“Jon & Kate Plus 8” aired on TLC from 2007 to 2009, when the former couple split. A year later, the show was renamed Kit Plus 8 Which lasted until 2017. After his parents' separation, Colin began to act out and rebel on set, sometimes giving “completely silent interviews” and refusing to interact.
“It was just the fact that I was in an institution and that's it.”
Colin was allegedly diagnosed with a conduct disorder, and when he was 12, Kate sent him to the Vermont Behavioral Health System – a psychiatric hospital located in Philadelphia.

“I couldn't provide for him on my own,” Kate said during an episode of Kate Plus 8 . Meanwhile, Kate Plus 8 continued with the other seven children. John claimed he didn't know Collin had been sent to a behavioral institute until he had lunch with the children one day and Collin was absent.
At the time, Kate had full custody of the children and insisted she did not have to tell John where Colin was due to a court order.
Colin claims his mother sent him to a treatment facility in order to “protect her reputation.”
“I didn’t know what was happening,” he told Entertainment Tonight about being sent away when he was 12. “I didn’t know where I was going. I told my whole family about it… It was probably the biggest fear I’ve ever had in my life.”
Kate's representatives did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Despite being discharged from the Marines, Colin actively appeals the decision so he can have a chance to fulfill his dream of serving in the military.
“I have few other desires in life that would surpass being a Marine,” he said.
Meanwhile, Colin plans to attend Pennsylvania State University to major in finance, where he will also be able to stay close to his father and sister Hannah.
“I'm sure we'll miss being together, but I think he's looking forward to me going my own way,” Colin said.
As for the possibility of Colin returning to reality TV again, he said there was a “good possibility”, although it was unlikely to be “full-time”.
